Slow Blades

Well, first off, apologies for posting such a sub par photo. Here we have a brief glimpse of a true UES gem. Watching this woman flomp on roller blades down E. 77th actually makes my ankles hurt. She awkwardly navigates the streets avoiding cars and messengers while peds blow by her their non-wheeled feet. I must say, however, that her style and technique has improved. Notice how her blades are almost vertical. In the past she "rolled" with her blades unlaced, wheels horzontal to the pavement, stepping painfully down Fifth Ave. This week she was so damn fast I could barely get my camera out for the shot. Note: the tiny pink Cinderella parasol.

Larva Haus

Rat says it's ugly.

The union says it's ugly.

It's ugly.
Just over the Pulaski bridge it sits. Lime green and army green camo, topped with some cheap motor home tin paneling, and seated on a bed of faux stone wall. Walking home to this condo everyday would be like continually reliving an afternoon spent puking "Natty Ice" on the side of your friend's dad's trailer at the trailer park behind McDonald's.

Paté likes its 1999.

We at Box Truck are aspiring NY bahn mi experts. (In other words, we're great big fat guys and girls). In future posts the city's vietnamwiches will get their reviews. For now we'll stare awestruck at the artwork adorning this bahn mi cart, spotted on Grand being pulled by a van. Someday we'll find where it does its tasty tasty business.

Tehran Square?

It's heartening to see that NYC is extending symbolic support to Mousavi supporters in Iran this week by organizing a continual Times Square sit-in - green chairs imparting a bold message for change. Oh, I guess its actually just a bold gesture in support of tourists plopping their fat asses down after particularly exhausting outings at Applebee's.

Pastime Tavern, Linden, NJ

My pops frequented this dive during his lunch break, as its located right down the street from the refinery he worked at. He told me that in the 80's, you could get a sandwich and unlimited beer for $3. One guy was known for drinking four pints of Bud every day before going back to work.

Bizarre Chick #1

Crazy like a homeless person, but with much more money. The UES fashion take on being wrapped in newspapers. The hat (and/or comically over-sized turban) is packed with spare cheek and neck skin.
